Is there an area you know your child is needing to grow in? I meet with parents all the time that want to see their children grow in patience, kindness, peace, etc. But how do we practically encourage this kind of growth in our kids?
It’s important that we have this foundation…
Have you ever thought about what you want for your kids’ future? I think the heart of every parent is to set their kids up for success, but if we don’t deal with our own hurts we can easily slip into making decisions that benefit us now instead of securing our children’s future…
Recently, I had a dream from the Lord that rocked me. It was kind of wild, but afterwards I realized the huge keys that God was wanting to give me to protect my family.
I had a dream where two unsuspecting guys were on my property. I knew in my dream they were not safe…
Want to help your kids grow in the prophetic? If your child has ever felt frustrated in the prophetic or you’re not sure where to start, these three quick tips will help your kids confidently step into the prophetic.
Recently, the Lord has been challenging me to remember one of my life messages: the joy of the Lord. I feel like there is a really important word right now for us to live full of joy, despite our circumstances.
The joy of the Lord is far more important to the well-being of the believer than we’ve known. In fact, it’s the determining factor in whether we receive the inheritance God is trying to give us. I’ll show you what I mean in Psalm 2, it starts off with the writer under attack from an enemy.
Are you or your kids in need of being refreshed? There’s actually an amazing key to being refreshed in God’s Presence tucked away in the story of Gideon. This powerful truth is impactful for your whole family!
Have you ever heard someone share a story and it really encouraged you? When we hear of amazing things God has done, we have the opportunity to grow in our faith for what God will do in and through our own families! Testimonies reveal the way He thinks and if we pay attention, our minds will be renewed to think more and more like God.
How do you help your kids hear God's voice? There’s actually a really profound truth tucked away in the story of one of my favorite heroes in the Bible: Hannah, Samuel’s mother. There’s something in her story that is so profound, and it helps teach us how to raise our children to know and love God and hear His voice.
Easter is just around the corner! It can feel like this season comes up so quickly that we just go through the easter egg hunts and family dinner, and we miss the opportunity to teach our kids what Easter is all about.
Do your children know they are a gift from God? Sometimes as parents we struggle in those difficult moments when our children don't particularly feel like a gift. We say things we shouldn’t, and if we're not careful, little by little we make our children think they're a bother rather than a gift.
Is there an ongoing situation in your home that is causing frustration? Are there specific times you can identify that you are short with your children? It’s usually not too hard to find those sore spots in your relationship with your child, and finding the solution to ease the frustration can feel elusive or even impossible…
Our kids carry the peace of God! We want our kids to realize that no matter what storm they encounter, no matter what is going on around them, they have God’s peace! His peace is not just so they can make it through the storm, but so they can shift the storm and change it!
I wanted to encourage you today with a declaration for your kids, “Today I will be a good influence on the people around me.” A declaration like this changes how our kids approach their friends. Instead of being on defense and focusing only on not letting bad influences in, they’re on offense, being a good influence to the people around them. A declaration like this is amazing for what it can do in our children’s lives.
As a parent, it seems so easy to worry about our kids. Sometimes we don’t even realize that we’re carrying anxiety in our parenting, and this can affect our whole family. I actually created an ebook, Worry-Free Parenting Hacks, to help parents live worry free and teach their children to do the same! I wanted to share an excerpt from this ebook because it seems so relevant for where we are right now.
Is not worrying possible in the face of a pandemic?
When Paul tells us in Philippians 4:6 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything,” he is first and foremost telling us it is possible to not worry. Believing this is the first step to curing worry in our lives, even if the world around us is in crisis…
With Thanksgiving coming, it’s the perfect time for us to talk about kids and thankfulness, especially since it seems as though we have entitlement sneaking into our kids’ lives more and more. Oftentimes, entitlement can be boiled down to a lack of being thankful for what we have…
Why are declarations important? Declarations are a powerful form of prayer, so powerful in fact that God spoke declarations to create the entire universe. When we declare the truth of who God says we are, it not only helps line up our beliefs about our families with the Truth of God’s word, but it will also recreate our homes and relationships to look like God’s home and relationships.
Most people live a good part of their lives by a schedule, but a lot of us tend to schedule things that drain the life out of us and not enough things that give us life. We get home at night and wonder why we're so drained, even if we are good at time management. It’s because there is an important second side to that coin - energy management. This is a key tool for us as parents…
What do you do when your child just isn’t listening to you? I’m excited to share today’s effective and loving way to discipline: the hassle timer. It’s another one we learned from Danny Silk, and it is my absolute favorite tool to use because it’s perfect for on-the-go or in the car.
One day, I was walking through the living room while my daughter was in the no fun chair, and she had been there for quite some time. She was crying harder and was visibly very upset. As I passed her, this thought popped into my head, “Can you calm down on her own, or do you need to be held?” Sure enough, she told me that she did need to be held in order to calm down.
There are many verses in Proverbs about the rod of discipline. Proverbs 22:15 says, “Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline will remove it far from him.” All throughout my childhood I heard this phrase, “Spare the rod, spoil the child.” What this meant was that if you didn’t spank your children, you would ruin them. Many people focused on the rod specifically, instead of discipline…
My wife Lauren and I are passionate about the topic of loving discipline, and we believe it is empowering to both the parent and the child. Proverbs 6:24 says, “A refusal to correct is a refusal to love; love your children by disciplining them” (MSG). We do not believe that discipline has to be a disconnecting, frustrating, or shameful experience for you or your child, and we do not believe that is what God wants either…
Sometimes when God speaks to me, and I feel like it’s for our whole family, I begin to implement what He is saying into our everyday routine. He has been really speaking to me through Ephesians 4:26-27, “Be angry and do not sin. Do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.” In the same thought Paul later says, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God…
Are you feeling the emphasized importance right now to be consistently reading the Bible? A lot of times we commit to year-long reading plans that incorporate both the Old and New Testament each day. However, in this season, it’s a great time to ask God, “What stories should I be reading and focusing on?”…
Oftentimes, when we think of our “pain tolerance,” we think of physical pain. You fell and scraped your knee or broke an arm. But there are other types of pain as well. There is a certain degree of “pain” when your family life isn’t going well or doesn’t feel peaceful. Or when your life is upended and everything that the fall season usually looks like with school, sports, and other activities is anything but normal…
What do you do if your children have been exposed to pornography? Our children spend a lot of time on their screens, and even our culture is changing to more remote work with the internet being the staple that keeps us connected to school, jobs, family and friends…
Pornography has never been as easy to find as it is now. In fact, many of our children are walking around with the ability to instantly access every kind of porn there is. With only an internet connection, pornography is accessible every second of everyday, no matter where they are.
As a parent, there’s nothing that can make you worry as much as your kids, right? One morning I was up reading my Bible, and I saw something I hadn’t seen before of how Jesus handled a dad’s fearful situation…
Have you ever prayed with someone else, and you realized their view of God was drastically different than yours? When we pay attention to how we pray, it can reveal what we truly believe about God and our relationship with Him. This was made so clear to me one day when my own daughter acted like an orphan; it made me realize asking God for things is vital to our relationship with Him as our Father…

Today I noticed another attribute as I was playing with my youngest son. My son repeats what he hears me say; he does what his brother and sister do, and he even mimics a bird when he sees it take flight. I see his childlikeness in how he imitates everything.

Once I was asked the question, “What do I do when my kids give too much attention to the devil?” It was written by a children’s pastor who has a child fascinated with destroying the devil. The Bible says in 1 John 3:8, “The son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.” Because of this, it is important to destroy the devil’s works - it’s our job.
But how we do it is just as important…
On Facebook a while back, I posted a question asking how families handle the issue of Santa Claus. Do they tell their children that Santa Claus exists? Do they sign his name on the gifts? Do they not mention Santa to their kids at all?
How do we raise children with a kingdom culture who have an intimate relationship with God and partner with Him to bring heaven to earth? While I fully believe in the parent’s role in raising up their children in the way they should go, I also know so many parents and children rely on support from their local church. And that’s not a bad thing! Children’s pastors have an incredible role in helping shape children for the kingdom of God…
Most people underestimate children, and many parents don’t even know what their own children are capable of. You may know in theory that there’s no junior Holy Spirit, but haven’t seen it for yourself. The solution is to have this kind of behavior activated and alive in your own home, and I’d love to show you how! Read more…

It’s incredible when you realize how much your mindsets affect your life. Psychologists study it, the Bible teaches on it, but how do you communicate the importance of choosing a healthy mindset to your children?
Holidays are so fun for families! Traditions, fun food, crafts, visiting family and so much more. We are about to enter the season where there's a holiday every month! The first one that comes though is one I often get many questions about. Halloween is almost here and every Christian parent is probably wondering quite a few things...

Have you ever noticed how your children pick up on your mannerisms and copy you in certain ways? Indeed, imitation is a crucial part of child development. What children see around them, they often mirror. My children pray a certain way because they’ve seen the way my wife and I pray. As parents, we have the incredibly important job of instilling culture into our kids…
Even though each day is very full, I enjoy almost every single day. Don’t get me wrong. I have bad days. I have days that as I’m going to bed, I feel like I did a bad job as a mom. Or I feel like I got absolutely nothing done. Or I feel like I’m never enough for everyone. Or that I’m not able to give everyone and everything as much of me as I’d like. But in general, I end most days very happy…
Have you ever wanted to teach something to your children but felt like you didn’t have the tools to communicate in a way they would understand and remember? The truth is, the first church is the home, and the first pastors are you, the parents…

Watching my children always teaches me so much about the kingdom of God. I’ve written a blog before on the fearlessness of a child before they know they can get hurt. My son, Aero, has taught me another attribute of the kingdom lately that I’d like to share with you.
I was on a plane recently reading a book called Screamfree Parenting. Towards the end of the flight, the guy next to me tapped me and said, “Do you think that’ll really work? For the rest of the flight, we had a lengthy conversation about what the book was saying, and what it wasn’t.
I had a great conversation with my daughter recently. As she was leaving my room, I hugged her and told her I love her. She looked at me and said, “Dad! You say that repeatedly (she just learned the word ‘repeatedly’ so she’s currently using it all the time).I told her, “For the rest of your life, out of all the things I say to you, ‘I love you’ is going to be the thing I repeat to you the most, because it is the most important thing of all.”
