Does Scream-free Parenting Really Work?

I was on a plane recently reading a book called Screamfree Parenting. Towards the end of the flight, the guy next to me tapped me and said, “Do you think that’ll really work?”

For the rest of the flight, we had a lengthy conversation about what the book was saying, and what it wasn’t.

Here’s what we talked about:

Scream-free parenting will not work if:

         -  You’re expecting your kids to do everything you say

         -  You’re wanting your children to not be able to think for themselves

         -  You’re wanting them to not be very creative

         -  You’re wanting them to be dependent on you for problem-solving

         -  You want them to be afraid of you

         -  You want them to grow up and not want to be around you.

Some side effects of scream-free parenting include:

         -  A strong connection with your children

         -  A relationship where your children want to protect your heart

         -  Your children want to hang around you as they get older

         -  Your children want you to help influence their thinking

         -  Your children let you help them and grow them in life.

If you’re looking for a parenting style where you get to influence rather than control, scream-free parenting could definitely work for you.

So does scream-free parenting really work?

Well, I guess that depends on what kind of home want.

So let me ask, would you like the home in the first or second list?

And yes, I do recommend not only this book but learning how to have a home where screaming isn’t used as motivation to get what you want from your kids.
