4 Ways To Teach Your Children How To Pray

Prayer is one of the basic fundamentals of living Christ-like. Teaching your child this natural act will set them up to live a powerful spiritual lifestyle and lay grounds of foundation for their own personal relationship with Jesus.

1. Pray

The first, most hands on way is to let your children pray! There is no junior Holy Spirit, therefore, your children's prayers are just as powerful. Take opportunities such as family dinner, bedtime prayers, or a tummy ache as an open door for your child to practice prayer. We learn by doing.

2. Pray In Front of Them

Spend time each day intentionally praying in front of your child. From spending a lot of time around kids, I’ve noticed you can tell the way a parent prays by listening to their children. Praying in front of your children is similar to Tom’s shoes company, you’re receiving, and also giving away with one go. They’re benefitting just as much as you are from you praying - they’re watching and taking notes!

3. Pray Prayers Already In The Bible

Praying Bible-based prayers are very powerful. A few great examples are the Lord’s prayer, and Paul’s prayers found all throughout Ephesians and Colossians. Using these, and more, as the foundation of prayer with your children is teaching them not only how to pray, but also scripture!

And Finally,
4. Use Scriptures To Form Prayer

Take scripture that the Lord has given you for your kids and pray them with your children. You’re still getting the same benefits of learning scripture, but you’re also exposing them to the character of God, and agreeing with the promises He gave you for them. They’re interacting with the destiny He prayed over them, as they pray it back in agreement.

“Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Proverbs 22:6
